Doing gender and its consequences in academic contexts

Anneli Häyrén, Centre for Gender Research, Uppsala University.

The fact that individuals are defined into two gender positions, and constructed as stereotypes accordingly to the positions, have several consequences. The purpose of the Swedish discrimination law is to prevent this to happen and to eliminate consequences once discrimination occurs. However, the constructions of gender works beyond rules and regulations and forms a fundament for doing inequality. Various contexts face various effects and this seminar focuses on the effects in Swedish academic contexts, specifically regarding salary, recruitment and harassment.

All welcome!
